Jekyll Fireplace Cast Iron Combination
The Jekyll fireplace with mid Victorian styling dates from around 1890.
In black or polished finish, the Jekyll fire has simple roundel motifs on the legs with flowers adorning the frieze. Fires with floral decor are typical of the Victorian period.
The Jekyll has small dimensions and is ideally suited for use in a dining room, parlour or drawing room.
The Jekyll fireplace is supplied by Carron fires.
The fire can be used for traditional solid fuels and will therefore require an ashpan. A gas insert is also available which needs to be fitted by a ‘Gas Safe’ registered installer. The Jekyll fireplace can be fitted purely for decoration, but will still require a fireplace opening large enough to accommodate the fireback.
Polished fireplaces will require occasional maintenance to retain the appearance. This involves a rub of light oil over the surface. Due to the intense heat produced by a real fire, discolouration or tarnishing of polished cast iron may occur. To avoid this, it is recommended that customers choose black or highlighted finish fireplaces.

What is a ‘Combination’ fireplace?
‘Combination fireplaces’ are complete fireplaces where the surround (mantel) and insert have been cast as one piece. Fireback, grate and shelf parts are made separately before being bolted together. The casting process limits the overall size of a combination fire hence they tend to be smaller. They are often more suitable for bedrooms. The main body and surround (mantel) on larger fireplaces are cast as individual sections.
